Scholars differ Money & business Quran · 1

Short answer

Contemporary scholars differ. Some permit holding and trading it as a digital asset or medium of exchange when it has real use and is traded without interest or deception. Others forbid it because of heavy speculation, uncertainty (gharar), the risk of losing everything and its use in crime. The Quran commands trade by mutual consent without taking wealth unjustly (4:29). Ask a scholar about the specific coin and how you will use it.

Quran

O ye who believe! Squander not your wealth among yourselves in vanity, except it be a trade by mutual consent, and kill not one another. Lo! Allah is ever Merciful unto you.
