Is horse meat halal?
Scholars differ Food & drink
Short answer
Scholars differ. The Shafi'i and Hanbali schools permit it, because of the hadith of Asma: “We slaughtered a horse in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and ate it” (agreed upon). Abu Hanifa and Malik considered it disliked. Many people avoid it by custom.
