Is gelatin halal?
Scholars differ Food & drink
Short answer
It depends on where it comes from. Gelatin from pigs is haram. Gelatin from cattle slaughtered by Islamic rules, or from fish, is halal. For gelatin from animals that were not slaughtered by Islamic rules, scholars differ about whether the change in its nature makes it lawful. The safe choice is halal-certified or plant-based gelatin substitutes.
